Version 2

Growing up on the rocky north shore of Lake Superior the passion of the harsh climate and wild landscape has influenced her life and work. Throughout her twenties and early thirties she spent most of her time exploring the world collecting stories and experiences then returning to her home to write, paint and draw.

These days she has mostly grounded her free wheeling ways in Ithaca, NY where she lives with her husband, dog and cat. She ended up in NY to study plant medicine and  she continues to work with the green ones at Heart Stone Herbal School. She paints from her long windowed studio with a view of the city hillside and watery inlet.

Working mainly in acrylic Friede seeks to explore ideas of structure, texture, and movement though rich colors, shapes and patterns. She believes that art is meant to beautiful. That a true work of art changes our experience of the moment in which we gaze upon it, and sometimes can bring people into altered states of consciousness.
